King’s Quest IX Granted Mercy

Hard working King’s Quest fans have succeeded in getting publishing giant Vivendi to pull the axe out of KQIX’s back and agree to continue work on the game by granting a fan license to Phoenix Online Studios. One of Vivendi’s stipulations is that the game cannot be called King’s Quest: Every Cloak Has Its Silver Lining, which frankly was too ridiculously long to be a viable game title to begin with. The game has been shortened to “The Silver Lining” and the planned trilogy of games will have the same characters and running plot of the previous eight.
It’s great news for Phoenix, since the official stamp lends them legal legitimacy in their efforts to revitalize the series. Prior to this announcement, they had been working on the trilogy without the expressed permission of Vivendi, who own the rights to the King’s Quest franchise.
Looks like letter writing campaigns and pestering companies actually works! Way to go gamers, you saved the life of KQIX.
