Ode to Ysuran and Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II

by Ingrid on December 19th, 2005

Finishing good games is depressing. Sort of like finishing a good book. You know it’s coming, and yet you don’t want it to. I dragged this game out as much as I could, and I’m still sad that it’s over. I miss my character, Ysuran, saying, “Let the shadows take whatever player has left me here to rot,” any time I left the Xbox for too long. I miss his alluring half-moan when he’d swing his weapon of choice at unsuspecting barrels. Sigh.

I feel that my feelings are best expressed in the form of a poem.

Ahem.

Ode to Ysuran

Oh, Ysuran.
I will miss
The way your armor
The one I slaved
Over
At the workshop
Never managed to cover
All of your chest.
The grey hue of your skin
While pasty and somewhat
Sickly
Was always alluring
To me.
I even liked the way
You’d insult me when I left you
All alone
I know you didn’t mean it -
I know you only missed me
When I was gone.

Oh, Ysuran.
Your aim was off sometimes
And you liked to fall through holes
For no good reason
I admit I was upset at the time
But I forgive you
I liked the way you shot flaming arrows
From your fingers
At least I think
It was from your fingers
Perhaps you were suffering from
Some chemical miscalculation
In some mutant form
Of Viagra.
And that book you were always holding
What the hell was it?
Was it porn?
If so,
Why didn’t you ever share?
Bastard.

Oh, Ysuran.
We had some good times
And some bad times
And some
W
T
F
Times.
But I do know
I shan’t forget you
Like I did
What’s Her Face
From Dark Alliance I.

This is why I get games that you can edit and add on your own levels/maps - never ending play (the GLW says I’m just a cheap bastard and don’t want to pay for new stuff!).

Oh; and because I can’t write poetry

[…] Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II (Xbox): While Dark Alliance was also really great, I think I enjoyed Dark Alliance II all the more because my character - my beautiful Yduran - rocked. I have a weakness for Elves who carry around books and are manly enough to wear skirts. You can read my Ode to Ysuran for further testaments of my love. Besides all that, though, the game incorporated some great features that enhanced the experience from the first one: the workshop where you could build your own weapons, and the ability to equip several weapons at once. You can’t go wrong with that kind of game play. […]

Dearest Ingrid. I am known to my best friend as Ysuran Auondril the Moon Elf Necromancer and I know her as Allesia Faithhammer the Human Cleric… we started calling each other so after a particularly long and gruling game of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II and continued to talk to each other as our chosen game characters for a few hours after and it just kinda stuck… Ysuran is by far the best character in the game and i think ur little ode to him rocks!!!:-)
