Sims 2 Holiday Edition Help Request
Hey game geniuses out there, some of our readers are experiencing technical difficulties installing the Sims 2 Holiday Edition. The installation process keeps asking for disk 1, even after they’ve inserted it. Ideas? Suggestions?
Update: Someone at The Sims Zone, posted a similar question: “Ive already put disc no.1 before I open the program then when i try to play it i get this message “please instert the correct dvd-rom,select ok and restart application”. No one has posted any solutions, yet, but you can keep watching it and this, to see if anyone comes up with anything. If someone does, I’ll update here.
Update #2: Suggestion, by Tor (thanks!): What you could try is making an iso/mirror of the CD, then use Daemon Tools to mount it.. Somehow the computer has an easier task to figure out the CD if it has all the files in a nice little iso.
Update #3: This might actually be your problem: Which version did you all buy?

ohhhh, thats why i was mad because it was 35 dollars and the internet only said 15. i bought the sims 2 holiday edition. GOD now im very mad!!!!!!!! i think thats my problem, and everyone elses. so should i just uninstall everything and put that in for my original sims 2? thats why there was four disks for an expansion pack haha god i was so confused. thank you that helped a lot.

Heheh. Np. Actually, I think you should return your Holiday Edition and get the Party Pack instead. This way you get some money back and you don’t have to uninstall your current game. But if you don’t have that option then yeah, find some way to save your games and then uninstall and reinstall with your Holiday Edition.

I don’t know about you “down in the states” if that’s where you are, but atleast here in Norway we can’t trade a game back if the seal is broken :(

I called EA tech support, and I’m upset!! It turns out we didn’t even have to buy the Holiday edition game, we could have just simply went online and downloaded the Party pack for 19.99 on the Sims 2 website!!!
I feel like screaming, because now, we have to uninstall Sims 2, and all expansions just to download the Holiday edition. The SIMS 2 holiday edition is for those who never had the 1st Sims 2. So this edition is merely what we already have but with “party pack extras”. So now I have to copy my Sims 2 folder to the desktop (just so I can keep my downloaded items, houses, etc), then uninstall all the games, re-install Holiday edition, University, and Nightlife, just to get a freakin’ party pack of 40 or so items!!!!! Can you tell I’m angry??? But that’s what you all have to do.

How about… you sell it to someone who wants it for like 30$ (friends, E-bay or whatever) and just go download it of the website, less money spent, less time spent, less angriness err… wasted? :P Just a suggestion though

ok, my problem is that i installed the Holiday Edition but first i had to uninstall everything else because i already had the Sims 2. so then i got on to play and it loaded and wasn’t being slow or anything, but when i’d click on a house or to create a person, it wouldn’t go. it would load but just stay on the same little loading screen with the hour glass still moving and the music still playing. HOW CAN I FIX THIS?!! i tried restarting my computer already.

All i did was uninstall the expansion packs first and then the Sims 2. But i don’t think you have to uninstall them in any specific order. Do you know where i can go to get help with my little problem? (unless you know how to help):)

In my area I know for those of you that are looking Electronics Boutique and Software Etc. take games in exchange and sometimes return. At least that way you’ll be able to get a little bit back on your return…. Hope that helps.

Is the holiday pack working for anyone? I have the Sims 2 already with all the expansion packs so I’d get the $20 download, not the brand new game, but is it actually worth it or does everyone have trouble with it?

Leora: I think the problem is that people are confused and buying the wrong version of the game, and that’s why they’re experiencing trouble. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the actual software :)

I just got the Sims 2 Holiday Edition for Christmas. I already have all the other sim games, so is the hoilday edition the same as the original sims 2 plus some extra X-mas stuff or what?? Also when i go to install it, it keeps asking me for the sims nightlife game. Its like the computer doesn’t know i want to install and thinks i just want to play. Can anybody help me pleassssse????

ok… i still dont know how to fix my little problem w/ the sims2 holiday edition!! i already explained how i can get onto it and everything but when i try to do anything like create a family or go into a house, it just wont work!! it gets stuck on the loading screen. once i even waited for over and hour and that stupid hourglass just kept turning… turning…turning… PLEASE HELP ME!!

What a rip off. I got Sims 2 Holiday Edition for X-mas. I already have all the sims games that are out. What i didn’t know is that the sims 2 holiday edition is the very same game as sims 2 except 40 new x-mas objects. Thats a rip off. So i payed like $70 to get 40 new x-mas objects. I had to uninstall all my games and basicly start all over. And to LAURA you have to install the games:1st-the sims 2 game or sims 2 holiday edition 2nd-the sims 2 university 3rd-the sims2 nightlife. Hope this helps out…

how to get santa to come:
You will need to buy your Sims a Christmas Tree for Santa to arrive. The tree doesn’t need to be placed anywhere special, just needs to be on the lot. :]

2)bake cookies do not let ur sims eat them all especially the fat sims lol. n make sure they r not rotten (the green smokey fing) as u wud KILL SANTA onli jokin.
3)make sure you sims are a sleep by 9:00
4)Santa will arrive eat ur damn cookies and leave a present!Santa (Clause will arrive at 10 PM and leave a present for the family. He will then eat a cookie, spend a few hours doing many belly laughs, and use the bathroom a few times. Sims will get a queue an action to see Santa. If you let the Sims see Santa, they will act surprised and then cheer.)

hey like i said ir ur good u get more than on epresent and if ur poor u get another present but if ur rich and naughty u get only 1 present also how yo kill santa its not easy especially after u try to catch him with ur player and he disappers. youll have to pause the game and write cheat code “arrestoclauso” than u get to freeze santa then trap him by bulding walls in the morning he will start moving aroun if hes trap and soon after no food and hygeine errors he eventually dies like i said its not easy to kill santa!

Okay…just got the Sims2 Holiday Edition. I don’t have previous Sims2 games but do have all previous Sims games. Any reason why I it keeps locking up while I’m installing? It always gets hung up at the .dat files between disks. I get from 1 to 2 then it freezes. I restart and then i get to 3 and it freezes. This is so frustrating. I’m gonna kill somebody. Please tell me this is a XP issue or its a user issue. Either one will do at this point.

I found, that if you install the sims 2 christmas party pack, and then insert the ORIGIONAL sims 2 disc, it plays fine, but it really pissed me off how it came with no manual so i dnt have the slighteset idea how to play!

Yeah, you download an .iso (image of the cd) from a site on the net, it’s legal as long as you have the original game, bought and all :) Or borrow the 4th disc from a friend… (don’t know If I’m allowed to post any kind of pages like this, so I guess you’ll have to slad this or something, you can get the .iso at http://www.torrentspy.com remember the magical sentence, legal only as long as you originaly own what you download)

kelli does ur computer requirments meet up to the sims 2
if so, ur computer may have to many stuff install on it, and some softwares may conflict with ur game, also downloads is a main problem. i suggest u restore ur system, then install ur game in this order
the sims 2 holiday edition
the sims uni
the sims nightlife
(dont install the sims 2 as it is exactly like hoilday thingy)
or
the sims 2
the sims 2 christmas party pack
the sims uni
the sims nitelife

Hi there, I’m from NZ and I bought the Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack (you have to have Sims 2 already on computer for it to run) and have noticed that it doesn’t have a manual or a registration code anywhere. Has anyone else experienced that? Will I need to have it to install it (it is not an expansion pack)?

uh ppl are wrong. Youcan celebrate easter and halloween. i dont know how but reveiws say you can its called the sims2 HOLIDAY edition. easter and halloween fall under holidays. its says it on the back of the box. quote “decorate teh house with misletow, snowmen, stockings, and EASTER and HALLOWEEN objects.”

Oh please help me. I cannot get my sims to take directions from me. I recently added a multitude of downloads to my game. I put them into the :/programfiles/eagames/thesims2/tsdata/res/catalog/canhobjects file. I already know that you should put them in the downloads folder, but none of the items would show up when I placed them there. I have enabled custom content (I have all eps, including Nightlife). I have tried disabling custom content. Everything but uninstalling. Please help me.

I ahd the same problem with one of my other games, and I went through a lot of this stuff and it said i had no more space on my computer, so when i got another computer i could play my game,
but the game really sucked and I took it back so I wasted $500 on a computer, but it got my Sims games runnin faster.

Hey everyone! My friend has all the Sims 2 exp. packs and the Sims 2 game. She is going to let me borrow everything instead of me buying my own but I need to know which exp. pack you use to start the game. I know for the Sims 1 it was Makin’ Magic even if you installed others (like Hot Date or Unleashed) after the Makin’ Magic one. Please help me so I know which exp. pack to purchase, this way my friend and I can both play and I don’t have to spend a hundred dollars on Sims 2 stuff. Thank you!

GGGRRRRRR!!! Can you believe I actually have to RE-INSTALL all my Sims games JUST to play the holiday party pack!!!??? Imagine - THATS LIKE 10 DISCS OF INSTALLATION TO GO THROUGH!!!!

After reading through this I’m sure most of you have still havent answered the main question!
Today I bought my wife ‘The Sims 2 Holiday Edition’ after making damn sure it included the first ‘Sims 2′ game, as she hadn’t played any since the original ‘Sims’.
We installed it, discs 1,2,3 & 4, only to be prompted to put in disc 1 to play. Once we did this it only came up with the same error many other people in here have mentioned, inser corrtect disc and restart game. This was infuriating for both of us.
After not finding the asnwer here I found EA’s techsupport site, noted in the back of the manual, http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/home.php?p_sid=D5gyXQai

and systematicly worked through the possible solutions.
I found the following finally worked for us (note be careful with this, if you change your hard drive by accident, I have no idea what could possibly go wrong):
Change DMA transfer mode to PIO mode .(This applies only to Windows XP users).
1. Click Start.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Double-click on System.
4. Click on the Hardware tab.
5. Click on the Device Manager button.
6. Click Switch to Classic View in the left pane.
7. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
8. Double-click Secondary IDE Channel.
9. Click on the Advanced Settings tab.
* Note : If you do not see the Advanced Settings tab, your computer probably has a SCSI (small computer system interface) drive. DMA transfer mode options are not available for SCSI drives.
1. Under Device 0, select PIO only in the Transfer Mode box.
2. If you have more than one CD or DVD drive, also select PIO only in the Transfer Mode box under Device 1.
* WARNING : If Current Transfer Mode under Device 0 or under Device 1 states Not Applicable, that device is not in use. Change only the Devices that do not state Not Applicable. If both devices state Not Applicable, your CD or DVD drive is on the Primary IDE Channel.
* Double-click Primary IDE Channel.
* Click on the Advanced Settings tab.
* Under Device 1, select DMA if available in the Transfer Mode box.
* WARNING : Device 0 is most likely your hard drive and should not be changed.
* Click OK.
* Restart your computer, and then restart the game.

OMG how do you get Santa to come? Everyone says bake santa cookies but i dont know how i even got an oven/stove! Will some1 please be more specific and tell me how to get santa to come. O btw…SIMS 2 HOLIDAY EDITION SUX!

I have the same problem as Alex does. Where is the registration key? Does The Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack (the version without the original game included) not come with its own registration key and manual?

YEAH WATS THE POINT OF THE GAME IF U CANT DO ANYTHING. I MEAN U CANT TAKE THE KIDS TO GO TRICK OR TREATING.THERE ISNT ANYTHING TO DO FOR FUN.I ALSO THINK I WASTED MY MONEY.THIS GAME SUCKS!!!!

Okay this might have been answerd already, but i dont have time to read all of the board, sorry. I would apreciate it if someone could tell me how to save all of my data from my Sims 2 game. (I to have the same issue about buying the wrong thing.) I wouldn’t like losing all of my iteams and my families.
Someone mention downloading it to there desktop. How?

I’m missing a lot of items that are on the regular sims 2 with my holiday edition. I had the sims 2 before (first disc got scratched) and then i got holiday edition and its missing items from both the regular game and the stuff pack. Does anyone else have this problem?

Question: I have had The Sims 2 Holiday Edition for about 2 years now and still haven’t been able to install it. I follow the directions in the book but my computer is telling me that i am running the wrong version of The Sims 2. Please insert NightLife. How do i get around this?

Hey I have the same problem as Jasmine. I lost the manual and I also have sims 2 open 4 business,nightlife and pets and u have 2 install the sims 2 holiday edition 2 install the others plzzzzzzz somebody help me cuz im a sims 2 FREEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!! I REALLYYYYY WANT 2 PLAY IT PLZZZZ HELP MEEEE!!

I’ve been having the same problem as Keke, it says that I need to re-install it but when it wont let me, I’m pretty good with computers and I know I’m not just being stupid… I need help :)
