Video Games Blamed for Girl’s Seizure

by Ingrid on December 12th, 2005

In Des Moines, Iowa, a mother found her daughter having a seizure in bed. The seizure occurred after the girl had spent a number of hours playing video games that weekend (five hours, to be exact). The tests from the hospital led doctors to conclude that it had been the long hours of game play that caused the girl’s episode.

Dr. Joel Waymire, a pediatrician, says, “The pattern of the lights sets up an abnormal reaction in the brain and that causes the seizure to happen.”

Kopaska doesn’t remember anything about the seizure.

Kopaska was playing the game called “True Crimes Streets of New York.” There’s a car driving through snow and the snowflakes act as a strobe light.

Well, at least she’s okay, though I strongly suspect she won’t be allowed to play video games much in the future.

I think this speaks quite highly of the quality of the game. ;)

    Heh heh heh.

oh yes..umm concern for the girl. Personally? I think she rocks. She played games until she had a seizure. That’s hard core. Kind of makes up for what game she was playing that induced aforementioned seizures.
